Health

The Healthcare sector is one of the largest sectors in the Netherlands with approximately € 100 billion in revenues. The Dutch government expects this to grow to € 170 billion in 2040, driven mainly by demographic changes and technological developments.

There will be an especially large increase in chronic diseases and mental health issues. It will be challenging to meet this growing demand given scarcity in financial resources and the growing scarcity in the Dutch healthcare workforce. Many initiatives are ongoing to create more value for the money spent on Healthcare and optimally utilize the scarce resources.

Developments

Three Big Shifts are currently transforming the Dutch Healthcare market:

  • A shift from Healthcare to Health: focus on prevention (healthy food, exercise, mental health) and early diagnostics. We believe Employers will play an increasing role in this trend.
  • Virtual & Digital Health: remote monitoring and diagnostics, centered around the patient (right care at the right place, digital first, at home where possible).
  • Data driven personalized interventions: data collection, aggregation, analysis and interventions.
